Milwaukie-Kenneth Schiedel knows what it’s like to be left hanging-literally.
While driving through the parking garage of Willamette View Manor, south of Milwaukie, on Monday, Shciedel
accidentally crashed his Lexus through a wall. The car’s front end hung out of the garage two stories up,
held by little more than luck until firefighters and sheriff’s deputies arrived.
“I feel like the village idiot, I have to say,” Shiedel, 83, a retired mortgage broker and seven-year
resident at Willamette View.
The crash knocked out by a 4-by-1 foot section of concrete wall, spraying debris into the parking
area below.
And Schiedel’s Lexus? Let’s just say it’s semi-kaput.
Schiedel explained the crash was a fluke.
“I’m somewhat ambidextrous,” he said. “I had my left foot on the brake
and my right foot on the gas. But when my left foot slipped, I jabbed my right foot on the accelerator.”
Luckily, Schiedel wasn’t hurt.
Detective Jim Storvink, Calckams County sheriff’s spokesman, and deputies are still adding
up the facts at the scene of the crash, which occurred shortly before noon at 12705 SE River Road.
“But this much is certain,” Strovink said. “He must have been going pretty
fast.”
Strovink said Schiedel kept his composure and sense of humor during the investigation. When a
deputy asked for his name, he said, “My name? My name is MUD now!”
Schiedel added: “I always told them they needed another exit in here.”
